Privacy Policy

VYU is a travel diary app. You check in at places you visit, take photos and keep a personal journal of your trips. This policy explains what information the app collects, why, and what control you have over it.

VYU is operated by Mirmahir Hasanov, Baku, Azerbaijan ("we", "us"). We are the data controller for the information described here.

Information we collect

• Account information. When you sign up, we store your email address, the display name you choose and a unique user ID.
• Location. When you take a photo or make a check-in, the app reads your device's location to find nearby places and to save where the entry was made. Location is read only while you use these features. We do not track your location in the background.
• Photos. Photos you take with the camera or choose from your gallery are uploaded and stored so they appear in your diary. The app only accesses photos you select.
• Diary content. Check-ins, notes, trips, city quests, points and badges that you create in the app.
• Technical data. Our service providers may process basic technical data, such as device type, operating system version and error logs, to keep the service working.

We do not collect your contacts, messages, payment details or health data.

How we use it

• To show you nearby places and save your check-ins and photos to your diary.
• To calculate your streaks, points and badges.
• To keep your account secure and the app working.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.

Who can see your content

Your diary, photos and check-ins are private to your account. Other users cannot see them. If you share a photo outside the app yourself, it is visible to whoever you share it with.

Service providers

• Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Storage) stores your account and diary data. Data is stored on Google servers in the European Union (Frankfurt, Germany). See Firebase privacy information.
• Google Maps displays maps in the app and opens directions when you tap "Get Directions". Google's own privacy policy applies to that use.

Information about places, such as names, descriptions and photos, comes from open sources: Wikidata, Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons. The app requests these images from Wikimedia servers, which may log your IP address as described in the Wikimedia privacy policy.

How long we keep data

We keep your data for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, we delete your account information, check-ins, trips, quests and photos within 30 days.

Your rights and account deletion

You can view and delete individual diary entries in the app at any time. You can also ask us to give you a copy of your data, correct it, or delete your account and all associated data.

To delete your account in the app, open Profile → Delete account and confirm. Your account, check-ins, trips, quests and photos are deleted immediately. If you no longer have the app, send an email from the address you use in VYU to the contact below with the subject "Delete my account", and we will delete everything within 30 days and confirm when it is done.

If you live in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you have rights under the GDPR, including the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

Permissions

• Camera: to take photos for your diary.
• Photos / gallery: to add a photo you already took.
• Location (while using the app): to find nearby places and record where an entry was made.

You can turn these permissions off in your device settings. Some features will not work without them.

Children

VYU is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

Data is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS) and protected by Firebase security rules, so each account can only access its own data. No system is completely secure, but we work to protect your information.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the effective date above. If the changes are significant, we will let you know in the app.
